The Andean slopes, the
cloudy
forest and the lowland
jungle of Manu are
regarded as the best and most
interesting places for birdwatching.
In Manu you can find
sixty species of
hummingbirds,
seven species of
macaws, ten species of
toucans,
seventy species
of antbirds and more than
eighty species of
tanagers and a wide variety of
flycatchers.
The maximum size of the group is
from seven people for one guide walking on the trails.

DAY 1 CUSCO TO PILLAHUATA.-
Early in the morning we begin in the Huacarpay lake (30 min away from Cusco), where we will see a
variety of high Andean birds. Here we look for wren-likerushbird, many-coloured rush-tyrant,
puna ibis, Andean gull, Andean negrito, aplomado falcon, american kestrel, cinereous harrier,
Backed hawk, black-chested buzzard-eagle and the Chilean flamingo. The impressive endemic
birds around this lake are the bearded mountaineer, rufous-fronted canastero and the streak-fronted thornbird.
While driving through the Andes we'll stop, whenever we
see some flock of Acjanaco birds. Being at 3450 meters A. S. L. is a good place for having lunch and starting the birdwatching down the road. These are the common ones: the gray-breasted mountain toucan, the Andean guan, hooded and scarlet bellied mountain tanagers, a wide variety of hummingbirds, collared jay, mountain cacique, fruiteaters and flycatchers. The camp site for the night is in
Pillahuata, at 2743 M.A.S.L.

DAY 2 EXPLORING AROUND PILLAHUATA.-
On this day we'll explore the trails and we'll walk along the road increasing our listing bird..

|
|
|
DAY 3: PILLAHUATA TO SAN PEDRO.-
On this day we'll go down the road into the cloudy forest where the chances for watching birds are
very high, specially on Tanagers, redstars, hummingbirds, flycatchers, furnariids and many others.
|
|
|
|
DAY 4: EXPLORING AROUND SAN PEDRO.-
Early in the morning we'll set off to observe from the special platform, the famous cock of
the rocks at the lek, and afterwards we explore the trails increasing our birding list.

|
|
|
|
|
|
DAY 5: SAN PEDRO TO AMAZONIA LODGE.-
Going down the road towards Atalaya (650m), we have the chance to see the Amazonian umbrellabird, versicolored barbet, black and the chestnut eagle and the beautifull quetzals, and
many other birds from different species.

|
|
|
DAY 6: EXPLORING AMAZONIA LODGE.-
There are many good trails for birding purposes around the Amazonia Lodge.
Located at the foothills of the Andes, this place congregates the lowland birds and the upper
tropical birds.

|
|
DAY 7: AMAZONIA TO MANU BIOSTATION.-
On this day we'll travel by boat downwards the Upper Madre de Dios River and arriving to the junction
with the Manu river where the Madre de Dios river begins.
Birdwatching- travelling by boat is exciting, a tour in which we'll see , the vultures, macaws, herons, egrets,
cormorants, terns and other birdy species.
We'll camp on the covered platform of the Manu Bio-Station.

DAY 8: EXPLORING MANU BIOSTATION.-
Early in the morning we'll walk for half an hour to the Blanco macaw clay lick and we'll watch as flocks
of parakeets, parrots and macaws arrive to eat the clay at the lick.
In the afternoon, we'll go to the Blanco Lake looking for the Giant River, otters and lake birds like hoatzins, kingfishers, flycatchers, grebes and other jungle animals.

DAY 9: EXPLORING AROUND BIOSTATION.-
Today we'll explore the bamboo trails, searching for the Peruvian recurvebill, rufous-headed woodpecker,
the white-cheeked tody tyrant, the Manu antbird and other bamboo specialists.

|
|
DAY 10: EXPLORING MAQUISAPAYOJ MAMMAL SALT LICK.-
Today we'll walk on the trails around Maquisapayoj, increasing our birding list.
This night we'll spend at the platform close to the mammal salt lick where we'll have a big chance
to see the tapirs, deers, and pacas (rodent mammals).

DAY 11: MAQUISAPAYOJ TO CUSCO:.-
Early in the morning we'll return to Boca Manu airstrip and the fling back to Cusco (45 min.).
Transfer to your hotel.
End of the service.
